Kelly, 1902 records, ‘D Co. 1st (Hertfordshire), Volunteer Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment; High street.’ By 1908 the (now C) company (Ware Section) was shown at Amwell end and Market square, Bishop’s Stortford.
Kelly, 1914, gives, ‘The C Company of the 1st Battalion Hertfordshire Regiment Territorial Force, numbering about 160 men, has its head quarters in Bishop’s Stortford, with a section at Ware; the Drill Hall in Amwell End, was erected at a cost of £5,250, and in winter is used as a skating rink; the rifle ranges are at Youngsbury, 3½ miles distant.’ Kelly, 1908, lists E Co., and places the head quarters at Ware.
