According to The Times, Saturday, May 5th, 1900, ‘Mr. James Elliman, who recently gave the Slough Volunteers £1,000 towards a new drill-hall, has now offered a fine site for the building in one of the leading thoroughfares of the town free of cost.’

Two years later, on Saturday July 19th, 1902, the Times reported: ‘A large party of colonial troops visited Slough yesterday, when Colonel Brooke Hunt conducted them over the magnificent new drill-hall, gymnasium, and club, presented to the Slough Volunteers by Mr. James Elliman.’
