‘4th East Anglian Brigade Royal Field Artillery; Ammunition Column; head quarters of the brigade, 28 St. Andrew street.’ Also at this address, Kelly, 1914, records, ‘Herts Yeomanry; head quarters of the Regiment & B Squadron, 28 St. Andrew street.’

Port Hill is recorded as the Headquarters and A Company, Hertfordshire Regiment.

Kelly, 1902, records, ‘1st (Hertfordshire), Volunteer Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment; head quarters [and A Co.], Port Hill.’ By 1908 the Battalion was listed as the Hertfordshire Territorial Battalion.

Kelly, 1914, says that, ‘A new drill hall and armoury was erected in 1898, in Port hill, at a cost of £2,000. The practice ground is in Panshanger Park.’

Kelly, 1902 and 1914 shows a Barracks ‘erected in 1883-4’ for Bedfordshire Regiment, 4th Battalion (Hertfordshire Militia) in London road.
