Cowes

Drill Hall, Denmark road

‘8th Battalion (Isle of Wight, “Princess Beatrice’s”) Hampshire Regiment; G & H Companies, Market hill.’ (Kelly, 1911)

Kelly, 1899, refers to an Armoury at Market hill.

The Times, Monday May 6th, 1912 reports: ‘Princess Henry of Battenburg laid the foundation-stone of a new Territorial drill-hall at Denmark-road, Cowes, on Saturday.’

The Denmark road building still stands, opposite Granville Road bridge, although we understand it is being redeveloped for apartments. (Up-to-date information would be appreciated.) It was used for many years as offices and workshops.
