Kelly, 1887, records that, ‘The M Company, 1st Volunteer Battalion, Princess Charlotte of Wales’s (Royal Berkshire Regiment) has its head quarters at the Lamb hotel.’ This is supported by Kelly, 1899, which adds: ‘armoury & drill hall, Corn Exchange.’
